Trust Your Intuition
Listen to that gut feeling; it's your inner security alarm. If something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. Always go with your instincts rather than second-guessing yourself. If a situation or place makes you uncomfortable, it's better to exit and change plans than to stick around and regret it.

Make Sure You Fill Up Your Gas Tank Before Sunset
Filling up your car during daylight hours means one less thing to worry about at night. It can also help you avoid sketchy, dimly lit gas stations that you might not be familiar with.

Always Keep an Extra Phone Charger with You
You never know when your phone might run out of juice. Having a charged phone is crucial for navigation and emergency calls. Keep an extra charger in your car, so you're never caught without a lifeline.

Signing up for AAA is a GREAT Idea!
If you've ever had a car breakdown, you know how stressful it can be. Add the dark into the mix, and it's even more concerning. AAA can be a lifesaver, providing everything from tows to tire changes. They even help with lockouts!

NO Visits to ATMs After Dark
ATMs are convenient but can be risky after sunset. If you need cash, plan ahead and make your withdrawals during the day. The risk of being targeted at an ATM after dark just isn't worth it.

Park in Well Lit Areas
Good lighting isn't just for selfies! A well-lit parking lot or street is less inviting for anyone up to no good. Plus, you can see your surroundings clearly as you walk to and from your car.

Share Your Location - https://www.life360.com
If you're out alone, especially after dark, use a location-sharing app to let a trusted friend or family member know where you are. It adds an extra layer of security and peace of mind for both you and them.

Keep Keys Accessible
Fumbling around in your purse for your car keys can make you vulnerable. Keep your keys in an easily accessible pocket or in your hand as you approach your vehicle.

Only Unlock Your Doors If You Are Immediately Getting Out of Your Car
It's easy to get into the habit of unlocking all your doors as soon as you arrive. Wait until you're ready to exit the vehicle to unlock, reducing the risk of unwanted entry.

Pay Close Attention At All Times to Your Surroundings
Awareness is your best defense. Scan your environment continuously and be alert to any changes or suspicious activity. Turn down the music and minimize other distractions.

Carry a Personal Alarm or Whistle
Carrying a small personal alarm or whistle is an easy way to alert people around you in case of an emergency. Just the sound alone can be enough to deter potential threats.

Let me tell you about my friend Lisa. She was driving back from a late-night event and realized she was low on gas. Although her gut told her to skip the shady-looking gas station up ahead and go for the next one, she thought it would be okay just this once. As she was filling up, she felt uneasy and saw someone approaching her from behind in the reflection of her car window. She had her car keys handy and her phone charged, so she quickly jumped into her car, locked the doors, and sped off. Trusting her intuition may have avoided a potentially dangerous situation.

By being prepared and staying alert, you're already well on your way to ensuring your safety during nighttime adventures.

Take good care!
