Planning a Road Trip?

The holidays are approaching fast and so begins the hustle, bustle and holiday travels for some.
We come up with a travel prep list to get you started on those travel plans.
Let's get to planning that road trip - Here are some things to remember:
- Bring Your Own Toilet Paper
Yes, seriously. Roadside gas stations and rest stops get slammed during the holidays—and they don’t always restock fast. A roll of TP or a travel pack of wipes can be a total lifesaver (especially with kids).
- Charge ALL the Things — and Bring Backups
Everyone remembers to charge their phone… but what about:
- Tablets for the kids?
- Wireless headphones?
- Portable charger?
- Car charger adapter?
Don’t just charge them the night before—pack the chargers and make sure everything has a home in the car.
- Bring a Small Cooler — Even if You’re Not Bringing Food
You never know when leftovers or a surprise pie will need a safe ride back. A small collapsible cooler can save your mashed potatoes from turning into a science project before you get home.
- Pack a "Car Comfort" Basket
Things like lip balm, hand lotion, tissues, gum, sunglasses, a spare pair of socks—stuff you’ll wish you had 30 minutes into your trip. Stash it in a small bin between the seats or in the glove box.
- Know Where the “Clean” Bathrooms Are
If you're traveling a familiar route, plan ahead by marking the rest stops or gas stations that are consistently clean. Ask friends, check Google reviews, or use apps like "Flush" or "iExit" to scope them out.
- Think About the Return Trip Now
Everyone focuses on the trip there — but your drive home deserves just as much attention.
- Where’s your coffee coming from the morning after?
- Do you have clean clothes and snacks for the way back?
- Will there be leftovers that need reheating or storing?
- Dress in Layers — Especially for Long Drives
Even if it’s cold outside, car interiors can get warm and stuffy fast. Layer up with comfy clothes you can peel off or add back depending on how the ride feels.
- Preload Music, Podcasts, and Audiobooks
Streaming isn’t always reliable, especially in rural areas. Download your playlists and entertainment ahead of time so no one’s stuck in silence… or arguing over music.
- If Traveling with Pets – Pack for Them Like a Kid
Bring a water bowl, waste bags, treats, and maybe even a little blanket or toy that smells like home. Pets feel the holiday chaos too—give them some comfort on the ride.
- Avoid the Sugar Bomb Snack Trap
Pack some real snacks—not just candy and chips. A cooler with fruit, nuts, cheese sticks, or even pre-made sandwiches can keep everyone from getting hangry on the road.
