If your car’s temperature gauge starts climbing or you see steam coming from under the hood, it’s important to act quickly and safely.

Here’s what to do:

Roll all your windows down and turn your heater on high
This helps pull some of the heat away from the engine and into the cabin.

Find a safe place to pull over
Move to the side of the road, put the car in park, and turn off the engine.

Turn on your emergency flashers
This alerts other drivers that you’re stopped for an emergency.

Call for roadside assistance
Contact your local tow company or AAA for help.

Pop the hoodbut don’t touch the cooling system yet
Opening the hood allows heat to escape more quickly.

However…
⚠️ Do NOT open the radiator cap or cooling system until the engine is completely cool.

Coolant/antifreeze can reach over 300°F, and releasing it while pressurized can cause severe burns.

Wait for your tow
Once help arrives, have your vehicle towed to your trusted mechanic.

If you don’t have one, we’re happy to help:
